Level Up Expo 2025
Centre Manager's Message
By Jess Wild, Centre Manager

Hello from CUC Maranoa!
We’re back with another update, and it’s been a big few months of energy, inspiration, and future-focused fun here at the Centre.
First up — thank you to everyone who helped make the 2025 Level Up: Expo such a success! Year 8 and 9 students from Roma State College and St John’s School came together for a full day of discovery — but not in the usual "pick a job" kind of way. Instead, students explored their own interests, strengths, and values and connected these to hands-on career activities in science, health, drones, construction, the arts and more. It was all about showing students that their future pathways are shaped by who they are — not just what's on a job list.
Speaking of future pathways… our LSAs are back with their popular Workshop Wednesday series! Whether you're in a semester, trimester, or block model — there's something for you. From Kickstarter sessions for new trimester students to Exam Prep, Assessment Breakdowns, and Referencing Refreshers, there’s a workshop designed to take the stress out of study. If you're unsure whether to write "Smith (2023)" or "(Smith, 2023)" for the third time you reference the same author — we’ve got you covered. And with AI continuing to be a hot topic, don’t miss our AI workshop — where you’ll explore what’s allowed, what’s useful, and how to use AI responsibly in your studies.
And yes — we’re planning something big! Mark your calendars for the first week of the September school holidays. We’re bringing sport front and centre at the Level Up: Game On Sporting Expo — part of the South West Regional Sporting Roadshow. With early interest from Olympian Grace Brown, the NRL Development Unit, Tennis QLD, and QLD Academy of Sport, this is shaping up to be an event that gets hearts pumping and minds dreaming big.
As always, if you're hitting a wall with study, feeling stuck, or just need a friendly face to talk things through — our LSAs, Kat and Glenys, are here to help. Book early, especially during busy exam periods.
Here’s to a powerful second half of the year — full of momentum, support, and new possibilities.

Level Up Your Future!
High School Career Discovery
Level Up Expo Brings Careers to Life for Local Students
The 2025 Level Up: Careers Expo was a standout success, giving students from Roma the chance to experience real careers in action. The expo brought together Year 8 and 9 students from St John's School and Roma State College for a day of hands-on exploration and career inspiration.
Across the day, students rotated through interactive workstations delivered by an incredible line-up of universities, training providers, industry professionals, and local organisations. Whether they were building structures with engineers, exploring health careers, controlling drones, testing out VR simulations, or trying out their art skills, every station offered a new way to connect learning with the real world.
The expo was designed not only to spark interest but to help students discover their personal strengths, values, and interests — and to show them the diverse paths available, both locally and beyond.
The day wouldn't have been possible without the support of our generous activity creators:
University of Southern Queensland - University of the Sunshine Coast - Griffith University - Queensland University of Technology - TAFE Queensland - University of Queensland - Hamilton Gallery - Wonder of Science - South West Hospital and Health Service - Switch FM - Maranoa Regional Council - Snap Fitness - Tivoli Rose - Hair by Hailey.
As well as our volunteers and support:
Headspace - CUC Balonne - CUC Cape York - Santos - CC Donut Productions.
Their energy and enthusiasm brought the expo to life and showed students just how many people and professions are involved in making communities thrive.
Planning is already underway for the 2026 Level Up Expo. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to work alongside schools, industry, and community to support early career discovery.

The Regional Sporting Careers Roadshow is a dynamic, travelling festival designed to spotlight the diverse and exciting careers that exist around sport — not just on the field.
Created to inspire and inform, the Roadshow brings together a wide range of sporting professionals, educators, and institutions to showcase the many pathways available to those passionate about sport. It’s a celebration of the roles that keep the sporting world turning — from sport science and health to coaching, media, education, events, and management.
Held during the September school holidays in Goondiwindi, St George, and Roma, the Roadshow offers:
-
Interactive experiences that simulate real-world roles in the sports industry
-
Insights from professionals working behind the scenes in sport
-
Connections with universities and training providers offering relevant courses and programs
The initiative is designed especially for young people in regional communities, helping them see that a future in sport is not only possible — it’s full of variety and opportunity. Whether you're interested in analysing performance data, planning major events, supporting athlete wellbeing, or telling the stories of sport through media, the Roadshow reveals how you can turn your passion into a profession.
At its core, the Regional Sporting Careers Roadshow is about broadening horizons and breaking down the myth that you have to be a professional athlete to have a career in sport. It’s proof that you don’t have to be a pro to go pro.

Student Games Night
Last month CUC Maranoa joined up with Southern Queensland Rural Health (SQRH) to host a games night for students in the Maranoa. Whether here on placement or local students got together for a well-earned study break… and a whole lot of fun!
The night was a great reminder that taking time to unwind is just as important as hitting the books. With pizza in hand and a little friendly competition, the energy was high and the vibes were unbeatable.
A big thank you to the SQRH crew for teaming up with us to make the night such a success — and to everyone who came along and brought their A-game! We can’t wait to host another games night soon… so keep your eyes peeled for the next invite.
Until then, happy studying — and remember, a little fun goes a long way!
